superfood smoothie [delicious + easy to make]

Absolute bliss ~ this superfood smoothie is one of my new favorites and is great for a mid afternoon pick-me-up or even as a desert treat if you have had a light dinner! Or for breakfast… or basically any time of the day!  It is that good!  Thanks to crazy sexy kitchen for the inspiration to create this recipe!

How to make this delicious vanilla superfood smoothie…

 

first…

soak 1/2 cup raw cashews in filtered water for 1-2 hours to soften. (if you are short of time, even 30 mins should be enough!)

 

then blend all this together…

cashews [drain and rinse after soaking]

3 cups of milk [i use rice milk, but you can use almond milk or cows milk if you prefer]

1 teaspoon of vanilla bean powder

2 tablespoons coconut oil [optional]

1 tablespoon hemp seeds

1 tablespoon raw honey

1 teaspoon of maca powder

8 ice cubes [use as much ice as you like ~ 8 is just the magic number that I put in all my smoothies]

 

sprinkle these goodies on top…

coconut flakes, and hemp seeds

 

and enjoy your smoothie…

[Add more sweetener to taste if needed ~ in our house, I love them sweet, Liana doesn’t! and don’t go overboard on the Maca until you have taste tested! The flavour of Maca Powder is quite strong against the lightness of the smoothie if you are not used to it]

This superfood smoothie recipe makes about 850mls – enough for two as a meal, or a small cup full for a few little people.  It also stores really well.  I put half of my smoothie in the fridge in this glass jar and drank it over 24 hours later and it was still delicious.  Give it a good shake and it is ready to go!  Some of the ingredients you may not have in your kitchen but they are all full of amazing benefits and can be used in a variety of ways. I highly recommend you track them down and stock your pantry and try your hardest to source the best quality organic brands you can… I have included some links below of where I buy each product from.
